~ Public Enemies kinda sucked. I really, really hated the direction and the use of what seemed like a half dozen different kinds of camera and film. Also, it's a remarkably poorly paced movie. The result is that I spent much of the film bored, which is a shame given the subject matter, and the fact that it stars Johnny Depp. Disappointing. (Adding insult to injury was the fact that we got awful, awful trailers beforehand.) ~ But, I got an immediate pick me up with the All Star Selection Show. Danny Haren, Matt Cain, and Josh Johnson are All Stars! I'm so, so, so thrilled for Cain and JJ, especially, because they've both overcome a lot (JJ, more, obviously, with the Tommy John and all). Oh, and of course, Lincecum made the team. On the AL side, I'm super excited about Adam Jones representing the Orioles, and Zack Greinke, even though he was a no doubter. And Tim Wakefield, making his first AS team at age 42! Tags: mlb: asg 2009, movies My Mood: excited

+ If Myriem's computer stops working, I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that I just spilled tea on it. Maybe my next laptop should be bought on the basis of the ability to withstand liquids and bumps, because I sure have banged mine around (mine, not Myr's!). + I went for a jog today. Although, since I hadn't jogged since middle school P.E. (or does chasing my dog around the neighbourhood count?), it was more of a jog-walk-jog-walk-jog. Since I can't do anything about my skin (or rather, I prefer pale skin to skin cancer), and I can't do anything about my teeth, maybe I can do something about the shape I'm in. I'm still under 120#, but I've put on some pudge around my middle. I keep running into older women who say "I used to look like you" and it scares the shit out of me. I don't want to be morbidly obese when I'm 60. Even if I don't lose weight, at least I'll feel more fit. And that'll be a big energy/confidence boost. I can't say that I'll keep up with the jogging, but at least I'm laying the groundwork. I'm gonna be spending a month in Missouri without Myr, so I'm pretty sure I'll be looking for something to do. + I had a dream which started out with me going to support Mulder on a comeback start and ended with me sitting on his lap at a mall food court, making out. It also involved swimming rabbits and Mulder's mother (who didn't like me even before we started with the PDA). Huh. ~ You all should do this writer's block, as I am fighting a losing battle against the 11 different Taylor Swift singles that are on the air right now.
~ If you're Stateside, did you notice many more people around you setting off fireworks this year? My parents have lived on the same street for the last 15 years, and I cannot remember people putting on such displays as I saw last night from our deck. ~ Going to see Public Enemies in a bit! Reviews are mixed, but I love me some Johnny Depp. Since I avoided the last Pirates movie, and I kept checking out Sweeney Todd and not watching it, it's been ages since I've seen him work his magic. I'm sure it'll be fun. Speaking of Depp's magic, when are we going to get a teaser trailer for Alice in Wonderland? And why is he rumored to be involved with Sin City 3, when I didn't even know there was a Sin City 2? ~ Half-Blood Prince should be coming out soon, no? Maybe I should re-read that. Or, at the very least, rewatch the last couple of HP movies. I feel really distant from that whole fandom, now. It just feels like it's been ages since the final book, and the last movie, and I have to remind myself that I actually do care. ~ I googled Huston Street in their news feature, and because he never shuts his mouth, his name popped up in a bunch of articles. Huston offering his thoughts on the Rockies turnaround. Huston offering his thoughts on Jim Tracy's managerial style. Huston offering his thoughts on Jason Marquis' All Star chances. Huston offering his thoughts on what makes Dan Haren and Ubaldo Jiménez such good pitchers. Huston offering his thoughts on Roddick v. Federer at Wimbledon. Oh, Huston. Is there an I HAS OPINIONS. LET ME TELL YOU THEM! sign above your locker? Don't ever change. ~ soupypictures says that, in his most recent sitdown with Urban, Zito claims to have only read the parts of Aces dealing with Mulder and Hudson. As my people say: Bitch, please. Someone needs to tell Rich Harden that he can't use the word "ugly" to describe one of his outings any more. Seriously, when you've used it for at least 2 of your last 4 outings, it's time to get a thesaurus. I'm sure they come in Canadian. Also, if I were a Cubs fan, I think I'd be getting just a little tired of his lip service to the baseball god Consistency. Today's postgame remarks: “The off-speed [pitches] were up in the zone and they were just sitting on fastballs,” Harden said. “Batting practice. … It was just ugly. It’s embarrassing. Consistency is the key in this game, and I’ll have another opportunity in five or six days.” - Northwest Herald (7/4/09) But way to end on a positive note there, James. I realize the words alone aren't the whole picture, but doesn't he sound fairly okay with his suck, as opposed to his postgame remarks in Detroit? ( "It was an ugly game and I wasn't happy with my performance. Just write that. I don't have too much else to say."). Maybe he only gets all tight-lipped when he really thinks the end result is someone else's fault? (see: pothead catcher and his pisspoor fielding/pitch calling) Or maybe he's achieved some state of zen about pitching poorly at Wrigley, so he only gets upset when he pitches poorly on the road, because that's his wheelhouse? Isn't Harden a free agent after this season? Consistency, schminsistency. Stop being so Canadian, and start thinking about your next paycheck, James Richard. That's how everyone else does it. ~ On the plus side, someone's asleep at the blackout switch again, and we're getting a classic A's game. On the down side, it's from 2001, it's ANOTHER Oak/Boston game, and it's not one of the big three's starts. Looks to be the May 11, 2001 game, as near as I can tell. I'm just in it for the dugout shots, basically. Hey, John Valentin. Whatever happened to him? ~ More on Daniel John's first home run, and his thoughts on possibly starting the ASG in Saint Louis: ( a poor man's version of Roy Halladay )He also won some money, as the pitchers apparently have some kind of numbers game going: ( I can't really get into details, he says. Probably because the RICO squad is listening )Tags: mlb: danny and the d-backs, mlb: oakland diaspora My Mood: my tummy hurts My Music: Ray Fosse and some dude who is not Glen Kuiper

On August 12, 2006, I filled out a meme where I gave 12 different ballplayers as answers for things like "who would you most like to snuggle on a couch with" and "who would you most like to give a massage to". For the record, Rich Harden did not make the list at all. (But Huston did) This blows my mind. On August 20th, I posted about my first meeting with Myr. How we saw the A's in Kansas City, and I said: And, weirdly enough, I'm quite full of little hearts for Rich Harden. I cannot tell you how surprised I am by that. I mean, couldn't take my eyes off him.On August 21st, I posted one sentence from three different fics I'd started and one was: Harden/Street -- It was important that it was different, because Huston Street didn't want to be the kind of guy you found on the same barstool every night. So, I was writing Rich? But apparently I had formed no attachment whatsoever, until I saw him. In my defense, he wasn't pitching then, so how was I to know?(For the record, Myr told me in response to that 8/20/06 post that we were "divorced". SHE WAS SO GAY FOR ME) Tags: i love cakeboy My Mood: amused My Music: myr yelling out requests for beck remixes
